Summer Dog Sled Tour

Visit with the Paws Crew and 46 sleddogs in their home kennel for a private hands-on summer tour behind the scenes of the working Paws kennel.  Meet and greet the sleddogs and meet the cast of characters who have helped carve out a unique and extraordinary life in Alaska.

Puppies? …maybe.  We prefer to raise our pups in summer when we have more time for socialization.

Meet our adoptable dogs: We sometimes have dogs that are better suited for a less rigorous lifestyle, or prefer to have their own human (and not be part of a sleddog kennel); in that case we offer them for adoption to a suitable home.

  • Bring your camera, and wear clothes you don’t mind getting covered with dirt and doghair.
  • Group size is limited to 8 people for this 1.5 hour kennel tour & Cart Ride.

Hands-on: This is a non-scripted, hands-on, personal tour to introduce you to the life of sled dogs and their mushers.  We will address questions, offer information and insight about owning sled dogs, their life, health and personalities as well as introduce you to training methods and schedules we employ to foster our success as one of the longest running premier dogsled tour and expedition kennels.

This tour includes running the dogs for approximately 1 mile with our 4 or 6-place side-by-side (motorized, wheeled vehicle). Guides will demonstrate harnessing and hitching the dogs to the gangline; guests will ride in the all-terrain vehicle with your musher/guide who will and drive the team.  Your guide will offer commentary about the team & stop to take photos of you along the trail. Time on cart ride is approximately 10-15 minutes.

If weather conditions are too warm, the tour is subject to cancellation.  Please note some dates in June and July may be too warm for dogs to run. Check with us. We should have a good idea about weather at least 48 hours in advance if we need to cancel.  If we need to cancel for any reason, you will be fully refunded.

Children are welcome, but please make sure children are within arms’ distance of an adult in the kennel at all times. Follow your guide’s instruction when greeting the sled dogs – the dogs are friendly, but have a lot of energy and muscle and not trained as a typical pet dog to come, sit and stay.
